Workshop on Total Station with Hands-on(23 and 24 August 2017)
The department of Civil Engineering organized a two days workshop on surveying equipment Total Station with hands on for 3rd year 4th year students of Civil Engineering successfully from 23 and 24 August 2017. This workshop provided the opportunity to the students to use Total Station. A Total Station is an electronic/optical instrument used in modern surveying and building construction. The total station is an electronic theodolite (transit) integrated with an electronic distance meter (EDM) to read slope, distances from the instrument to a particular point. Robotic total stations allow the operator to control the instrument from a distance via remote control. This eliminates the need for an assistant staff member as the operator holds the reflector and controls the total station from the observed point. The following are some of the major advantages of using total station over the conventional surveying instruments:
1. Field work is carried out very fast.
2. Accuracy of measurement is high.
3. Manual errors involved in reading and recording are eliminated.
4. Calculation of coordinates is very fast and accurate. Even corrections for temperature and pressure are automatically made.
5. Computers can be employed for map making and plotting contour and cross-sections.
Contour intervals and scales can be changed in no time.
In inaugural function, Dr. V.H. Tatvavadi (Principal, DBACER.) given a speech where he encouraged the students. Dr. S.V. Prayagi (HOD,ME),Dr.A.P.Kedar (Academic Coordinator) Dr. M.S.Bhagat (HOD, CE) and Dr. T.A.Ansari (Faculty In charge) were also present in the workshop. Mr. Vikas S. Pise was the Cheif Guest of the program where he delivered the lecture on Total Station followed by practical. Total 100 students participated in the workshop. For workshop, students were divided into five groups (20 students per group) and each group performed the task to use total station in the college campus. After practical work students learned how to take the readings and how to transfer the data into computers. The feedback of the students were also collected where workshop received very positive response. In the last it is concluded that this type of workshop should be organised for the students. The various photographs were also captured during the inauguration function and the theory and practical of workshop.

DBACER students go Green at eBAJA 2017(28th February 2017)
Students from city’s Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar College of Engineering and Research recently participated in BAJA SAEINDIA 2017, an event which is annually held at NATRiP facility at Pithampur, Indore. The BAJA SAE tasks the students to design, fabricate and validate a single seater four - wheeled off road vehicle to take part in series of events spread over a course of 5 days that test the vehicle for the sound engineering practices that have gone into it, the agility of the vehicle in terms of gradability, speed, acceleration and manoeuvrability characteristics and finally its ability to endure that back breaking durability test.
The late Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, former president of India, had suggested to the organizing committee that they should utilize the Baja platform for national prosperity. As a result, the eBAJA came into existence, its goal being to enable young minds and offer them an opportunity to experiment and explore electric mobility, which is touted to be the future of all things on wheels.
With constant support, motivation and financial assistance provided by The Meghe Group of Institutions and The College, this year our college team named LEGION 2.0 participated under the category of eBAJA, a newly introduced concept in the 2015 edition of BAJA and was the only team from Vidarbha under eBAJA. The speciality of vehicles under eBAJA was that they were powered by electric power trains sourced from Mahindra Reva e2o, instead of the petrol powered engines used in conventional BAJA vehicles. The initial stage was the virtual round of selection which was held at Christ University, Banglore in August. In this round each team had to give a presentation on the overall design of the vehicle. 185 teams including 35 for eBAJA and the rest for BAJA were selected out of 408 team entries. The selected teams had to further work upon their designs and fabricate the vehicle according to the updated design.
The team Legion, consisting of 25 members was led by Captain Atharva Bagade ,Vice Captain Rutwik Sawarkar and guided by faculty advisor Prof. Bhoraj.N. Kale, Prof S. V. Lutade and Prof. M. Fande. The vehicle was driven by Sahil Pradhan.
Out of 35 participating eBAJA teams Team Legion 2.0 stood 4th in the endurance run which was held after various tests including Safety Scrutiny, Electric Safety, Brake Test, acceleration test and Static events such as Design, Cost and Sell Presentation which was delivered by Aparna , Mrunalini and Anagha.
The main sponsors for the team were Meghe Group of Institution, Weldwell Electrodes, and MIA Hinga MIDC Nagpur. Dr.V.H.Tatwawadi (Principal), Dr. S. V. Prayagi (Head of the Mechanical Department), Dr.A.P.Kedar (Academic Dean) and all faculty members have congratulated the team for their achievement in e BAJA-2017.
